All around the world, at least 60 percent of school children and almost 100 percent of adults suffer from dental cavities. Meanwhile, people aged 65 and above do not have natural teeth. The biggest culprit? Lack of oral hygiene. And as the years pass, dental problems are becoming more and more common, particularly tooth cavities that cause discomfort, pain, and even tooth loss,

But for as long as you maintain the required oral hygiene, there is a higher chance that you will never have to shy away from smiling. However, should you find yourself developing a cavity, the good news is that you do not have to do much. There are things in your kitchen that can help you. Below are some home remedies that are effective against cavities and other oral problems.

Remedy #1: Salt

Because of its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, salt can be effective in dealing with cavities and problems like pain, infection, inflammation, and bacterial growth. Mix a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and swish the solution around in your mouth for one minute. Concentrate on the affected tooth and repeat thrice daily until you get relief from the symptoms. Another way is to take half a teaspoon of salt and mix it with mustard oil or lemon juice to make a paste. Gently massage this paste into your gums for a few minutes and gargle with warm water. Do this twice every day to help kill bacteria.

Remedy #2: Clove

Clove is rich in antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties and will help ease the pain and restrict the cavity from spreading any further. To get temporary relief from the symptoms of cavities, gently chew on a whole piece of clove to extract its juice. Allow it to sit under your tongue for a few minutes. Another way is to mix 2 drops of clove oil with a quarter of a teaspoon of sesame seed oil. Soak a cotton ball with this solution and dab it on the affected tooth every night before going to bed.

Remedy #3: Garlic

Also known for its antibacterial and antibiotic properties, garlic can help ease the problems of the dental cavity while promoting healthier teeth and gums. Create a paste by mixing crushed 3 to 4 garlic cloves with a quarter of a teaspoon of rock salt. Apply this mixture to the affected tooth and leave it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing with mouthwash. Do this twice daily until you see results. You can also use garlic oil to rub on the infected teeth for pain relief caused by the cavity.

Remedy #4: Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is an herb known for its numerous health benefits, including healing tooth decay and cavities. It has antibacterial properties that will help fight these problems while also giving you relief from pain caused by cavities. This wonderful plant is also a rich source of vitamins A and E and minerals like calcium, iron, and magnesium that promote strong and healthy teeth. Drink half a glass of wheatgrass daily on an empty stomach. You can also chew on it to exercise your teeth and gums while boosting dental health.

To lead a quality life, you need to consider all your body parts, and this includes your teeth. Because many oral problems can get you in trouble, you can find yourself complaining about some new every day. You might not know it but what can start as small tooth decay can balloon into a big dental nightmare if you do not get it treated on time.
